ขณะที่แม่จอยอยู่บ้านกับน้องมุกสองคน ในวันจันทร์ที่ 29 ธันวาคม 2551 แม่จอยนั้นกำลัง online และน้องมุกก็กำลังดูทีวี น้องมุกได้วิ่งเข้ามาบอกกับแม่จอยว่า "คุณแม่ขา... หนูได้เบอร์โทรศัพท์สำหรับจะได้ออกทีวี หนูจดเอาไว้บนกล่องเย็บปักถักร้อยแล้วค่ะ"
On December 29, 2008 Milan and I were at home. While I was online and Milan was watching TV, she ran to me with excitement, "Mommy... I've got a number for being on TV. I wrote it down on my sewing kit!"
แม่จอยจึงได้โทรศัพท์ไปตามเบอร์ที่น้องมุกจดไว้ ปรากฏว่าเป็นประกาศรับสมัครเด็กๆ ตั้งแต่อายุ 6-18 ปี ให้ไปสัมภาษณ์ เพื่อคัดเลือกโดย National Directors เพื่อโอกาสในเชิงธุรกิจด้านการโฆษณา ทีวี และแมกกาซีน น้องมุกได้เวลานัดในวันเสาร์ที่ 3 มกราคม เวลา 6 โมงเย็น
I called the number and learned that they were inviting kids (6-18 years old) to an audition with national directors to become part of future TV commercials, TV shows, catalogs, and magazines. Milan was scheduled for Saturday January 3rd at 6PM.

On Saturday, Milan and I went to the audition as scheduled. Vinnie joined with us after work.
น้องมุกได้เข้าไปสัมภาษณ์พร้อมกับพ่อวินนี่และแม่จอย กับ ACT Director คนหนึ่ง (www.theact.tv) ซึ่งเป็นนางแบบสาวจีนชื่อ "ลินดี้" ผู้ซึ่งวินนี่เชื่อว่าได้ตกหลุมรักน้องมุกทันที เธอได้แต่พร่ำว่า "หนูสวยมาก... ลูกสาวของคุณสวยมากจริงๆ" เธอถามว่าน้องมุกนั้นมีเชื้อชาติอะไร ซึ่งพ่อวินนี่ก็ตอบด้วยความภาคภูมิใจว่า "อิตาเลียน-ไทย" ลินดี้ได้สัมภาษณ์ต่อ และทราบว่าน้องมุกนั้นเป็นเด็กเรียนดีมากๆ อีกทั้งยังเป็น "ผู้แทนนักเรียน" และมีประสบการณ์ในเรื่องการเต้น บัลเลต์ แจส แท็ป ฮิบฮอป ฯลฯ ซึ่งลินดี้ได้ให้เบอร์โทรศัพท์สายตรงของเธอกับแม่จอย และขอให้แม่จอยโทรไปสอบถามเรื่องผลการคัดเลือกในวันจันทร์
During the audition, Vinnie thought that an Asian model named "Lindy", who is an ACT (www.theact.tv) staff member was immediately interested when she laid eyes on Milan. She kept saying, "You're so beautiful! Your daughter is so beautiful!" She wanted to know Milan's ethnicity so Vinnie told her "Italian-Thai" !!! (as Vinnie likes to tell people that he is Italian ~ not American). Lindy also learned that, in addition to dance experience in ballet, jazz, tap, hip-hop, Milan is a very good student and is a member of the student council. Lindy then gave us her telephone number so we could call her to find out if Milan was selected.

On Monday, I called Lindy at 10 AM. She said that she was very disappointed with the crowd. There were over 600 kids and first they planned to select about 5%. However, they finally decided to select only a handful of kids which is less than 5%... and Milan is one of them !!!!
แม่จอยนั้นตื่นเต้นเอามากๆ และน้ำหูน้ำตาก็เริ่มไหล นึกไปถึงเมื่อครั้งที่น้องมุกได้รับตำแหน่ง "Little Miss Hollywood of RI" ในปี 2544 และพ่อวินนี่นั้นก็คงตื่นเต้นไม่แพ้กัน ถึงกับส่ง SMS ไปให้น้องมุก ข้อความว่า

I was so excited that I came to tears during part of our conversation, remembering when Milan was crowned "Little Miss Hollywood of Rhode Island" in 2001. Vinnie was also very pleased and sent Milan this SMS message.

น้องมุกกลับมาจากโรงเรียนด้วยความชื่นมื่น บอกกับแม่จอยว่า หลังจากได้รับ SMS จากพ่อวินนี่ น้องมุกดีใจมากและได้บอกกับ "ลอเรน" เพื่อนสนิทว่า ตนเองกำลังจะดังแล้ว และในอนาคตก็อาจต้องย้ายไปอยู่ที่ Hollywood แคลิฟอร์เนีย แต่น้องมุกก็จะโทรศัพท์มาหาเพื่อนเสมอๆ นะ
Milan came home from school with lots of excitement. She told her best friend, Lauren, that she might become famous one day and she might have to move to Hollywood, California. She told Lauren that she would call and keep in touch!!!

Yes, we all went there last night and had a nice meeting with the ACT staff. We were informed that only 25 kids were chosen out of over 600 children who showed up on the audition day. We signed a contract for Milan to be an ACT student and get training for six months, with professional photo shoots and agents' interviews.

Milan woke up this morning (01-06-09) with a nice smile on her face. She said, "Mommy, I had a nice dream last night.... Daddy, you, me, and Uno lifted the entire Beach House and moved it to live in front of the beach in Hollywood.
